Restoration

The Lt. Elisha Root House, originally built in 1763, was disassembled, relocated on its current site in 1986. It took us 2 years to complete this museum quality restoration of the historic home of a CT Revolutionary War officer. Historic architectural features include the rare front entrance, one of only 3 like it in New England and 3 oversized for the period, Bedrooms, a Front Parlor, wide-board floors, 4 fireplaces elaborate detail includes extensive moldings, beautiful built-ins are indications of the stature of the original owner.

Traditional rooms for the periods land owners are also present, Keeping Room, Borning Room, and Buttery. In the Dining Room there is also the traditional coffin door, hopefully rarely used. Modern utilities were installed throughout including an addition built with the same methods and tradition as the original. This addition provided the extra space for the modern kitchen pictured.
